Tristram Warren
Planetary Scientist/Engineer
I’m interested in how the planets (and other bodies) in the Solar System formed, evolved and what it is like there at the moment. That’s my science interest, but I am also keen on building things, particularly electronics. I manage to combine these two interests by helping to build scientific instruments that are sent to other planets to help study them.
I did my undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering at Bristol University, before starting my PhD here at Oxford. My PhD involved building laboratory experiments to help calibrate an instrument in orbit around the Moon called “Diviner” on NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. However during my PhD I was asked to help with the electronics build and design on InSight – the Mars seismometer.
