I’ve been interested in satire and especially cartoons since I was a child. Consequently as an historian they were a natural source for me to research, and their real power as cultural artefacts became quickly clear – as snapshots into genuinely popular culture at any given time. Much more so in this respect than almost any other source. I’ve also been very interested in science since childhood, though as an amateur. So the opportunity to combine both interests in this project was fantastic!
