David Howey

Battery engineer

I’ve always been interested in how things work, and as a kid had fun building little robot arms and electronics to connect them to computers. I studied engineering at Cambridge and Imperial College London. I’m concerned about climate change, and a big part of addressing this is to change our energy systems so that we are not burning fossil fuels. My research interests are in designing and controlling energy storage systems, including batteries, which are an important technology for increasing the amount of renewable energy on the power grid, and for electric cars. My group has produced a number of animations about our work (available from my website) and also participated in Oxford’s Curiosity Carnival in 2017.
