Becky Smethurst

Astrophysicist

From a young age I’ve always been interested in space. I wanted a telescope for my birthday when my friends all wanted bikes. So when it came to choosing my university degree, it was a no brainer for me. I went to Durham University and did my Masters in Physics and Astronomy and then my PhD at Oxford in Astrophysics. After finishing my PhD I was a research fellow at the University of Nottingham and am now back in Oxford, at Christ Church College, where I’ve been doing research into the interaction and co-evolution of galaxies with their central supermassive black holes. I also make videos about astronomy, space news and unsolved science mysteries on my YouTube channel Dr Becky.
