Anouk van Maris

Research fellow in responsible robotics

I received my BSc and MSc degree in Artificial Intelligence in The Netherlands, at Radboud University Nijmegen. Even though I was always fascinated by the new technologies and the possibilities that come with them, I was also wary about the downsides they could provide. When an advert for a PhD position came up at the Bristol Robotics Lab (UWE, Bristol) on ethical human-robot interaction, I knew this was the right position for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my PhD, where I did a lot of outreach activities, mainly focused on robots for older adults (see an example on the St Monica Trust Twitter page). When I successfully defended my work, I was able to continue working on my research interest as I am now a research fellow in responsible robotics at BRL.
