Are exhausts causing dementia?

Thursday 17th Nov 2016, 11.30am

This podcast is part of the The Big Questions series.

When you walk down the street or you stand waiting for a bus you are exposed to breathing in the fumes of passing vehicles. In our latest podcast we look at the tiny particles within these fumes to find out what they could be doing to our health.

Teaming up with Oxford University of Earth Science and Lancaster University, we ask the question whether breathing in these fumes can lead to dementia?

Very interesting and provocative work. If reinforced through further investigation, it would be consistent with other work showing human cognitive declines associated with pollution in ambient air. The nano aspect also has implications for the field of nanotechnology more broadly.
